Last Friday, I had a chance to be a photographer assistant on the wedding in Jonesboro, AR. It was my first time photographing wedding, and I was very nervous about that. Moreover, it was my first wedding experience in America.
I found many differences in traditions between my country, Russia, and America. For example, in Russia, grooms have to work for their brides. Early in the morning, when the bride is almost ready, the groom shows up at her home with friends and relatives. They force the groom to do silly dances, answer questions about the bride, and so on. If the groom does not know answers to any of the questions, he can pay relatives money or give them gifts. Only after that, the groom can finally see his bride. It is called “bridal ransom.”
However, many traditions are the same like white dress, two rings, vows of love, etc. I was really glad that I had this opportunity. The wedding was awesome and I enjoyed every second of it!
Wedding photography is stressful. You do not have second chance to capture moments, so you should always be ready for any kind of picture. I think that preparation is a key to good photographs. So, before the wedding, Emily, the main photographer, and me visited place to be aware of lighting conditions and have an idea of a few positions for shots. Planning ahead helped us to get better pictures.
